Outstanding Women of New Brighton: Dr. Christina L. (Krut) Bourne
Christy was an energetic and adventurous child whose inquisitive mind wanted to know the “How, When, Where, What, and Why” things work. These personal traits continued throughout her life as she pursued her dream of becoming an ER doctor which she attained. She is unafraid to venture and explore places that are seldom visited as she looks forward to the challenge.
On Christy’s ”trip of a lifetime” to Antarctica, it was love at first sight. On her return, she pursued the position of an Expedition Medical Doctor, and she plans to go again. In her spare time from being Associate Dean of the Medical University of South Carolina, she has been working for Lindblad / National Geographic Expeditions. Christy has made multiple trips to the North Pole and the Arctic region, where she was on a Russian breaker. She has been able to explore over 60 countries, including most recently Cambodia and Vietnam, but her heart remains in the polar regions, exploring Antarctica and the Arctic.
